Class 11 World History is a high school social studies course that examines major global historical developments and transformations that shaped the modern world. Students study political, economic, cultural, scientific, and ideological movements across multiple regions, emphasizing the interconnected nature of world events and the rise of modern global systems. Topics include global trade networks, imperial expansion and colonialism, revolutions and nation-building, industrialization, the development of modern political ideologies, and the causes and consequences of major global conflicts.

Students build historical thinking and academic skills through analysis of primary and secondary sources, structured discussion, map and timeline work, and evidence-based writing. Emphasis is placed on understanding causation, comparing perspectives, evaluating historical claims, and connecting regional developments to global patterns. Students complete written assignments, projects, and assessments that demonstrate comprehension, interpretation, and analytical reasoning.

Course Objectives

  • Identify and explain major events and developments in world history, including revolutions, imperialism, industrialization, and global conflict.
  • Analyze global interconnectedness, including trade networks, cultural exchange, migration, and the influence of empire and colonization.
  • Explain cause-and-effect relationships and evaluate how political, social, economic, ideological, and technological factors shaped historical change.
  • Use historical thinking skills including chronology, continuity and change, contextualization, and comparison.
  • Interpret primary and secondary sources, identifying author perspective, bias, purpose, and reliability.
  • Compare political and economic systems, including monarchy, democracy, authoritarian systems, capitalism, socialism/communism, and emerging nation-states.
  • Evaluate the impacts of industrialization, including labor systems, technological change, environmental consequences, and social reform movements.
  • Explain the causes and consequences of imperialism and colonialism, including resistance movements, resource extraction, and long-term global effects.
  • Analyze the origins and outcomes of major global conflicts, including contributing factors, alliances, ideological tensions, and postwar changes.
  • Write clear, evidence-based historical responses and essays, incorporating accurate facts, appropriate vocabulary, and source-based support.
  • Participate in structured discussions and presentations, demonstrating respectful dialogue and well-supported viewpoints.
  • Complete research-based or project-based work, using credible sources and basic citation practices appropriate to the high school level.

This course does not include a live Zoom.
